Made up of thousands of lenses, the compound eye of the housefly is capable of perceiving a light and color spectrum which us, humans, cannot see. Due to their compound eyes, the houseflies can detect the slightest movement in their field of view (that why it's so difficult to catch a housefly). Because of the importance these sense organs have, the houseflies spend a lot of time cleaning their eyes with the help of their feet.
