Using tweezers I took a sample from the wing of a fungus gnat. You can observe the structure of the transparent wing, traversed by nerves with support and strengthening role. You can also notice the little hairs which cover the entire wing surface and which play an important role in detecting changes in air pressure. The fungus gnats feed on plant roots and fungi, thus aiding in the decomposition of organic matter. They are also important pollinators that can help spread mushroom spores as well as plant pollen.
