Tulip petal stoma(Tulipa)
downloadIn the image above you can observe a greenish-yellow oval structure which is called stoma. It represents an opening (pore) in leaf and stem epidermis (in this case a tulip petal). The pore is bordered by a pair of specialized cells known as guard cells that are responsible for regulating the size of the opening. Stomata play a crucial role in the gaseous exchange between a plant and the environment (in the respiration process) and in the water evaporation (in the transpiration). You can also observe the reddish colour of the cells’ cytoplasm.
